This will be a wonderful 1 day workshop. Tom will demonstrate how he throws and alters his pots including covered ovals, flasks, pour bottles, mugs and his T-pots. You will be to see the entire process of throwing, altering, assembling, lid and spout making, and more. There will be time for questions and answers. Come, be inspired, make new friends, take notes, and enjoy a day spent watching a master at work - $50

On Saturday and Sunday April 27 and 28th, nine western MA pottery studios will celebrate the potter's art and the advent of spring by opening their doors to the public for the Asparagus Valley Pottery Trail. This free event, now in its ninth year, allows visitors a glimpse of the workspaces, artwork, and techniques of seventeen nationally-known professional potters. The studios include country barns, small-town storefronts, and reclaimed factory spaces, and the pottery made in them ranges from redware inspired by early American pottery to Asian-influenced stoneware and contemporary decorated porcelain. Visitors will find tableware, garden sculpture, architectural tile, and decorative pieces in a range of styles and prices. All nine studios will have work for sale, and several of the potters will be demonstrating their techniques during the weekend.

For this annual exhibit, Pinch and the Asparagus Valley Potters Guild will turn their attention to how we set our tables and the meaning of the communal meal. Home Thrown will also explore the idea of regional identity and seek to find out what this group's work, taken together, says about pottery and the Asparagus Valley. Table settings or serving pieces from each potter will sit side-by-side on one long farm-style table.

This workshop will cover a large number of thrown forms and a variety of ways to decorate and enhance them, including carving, faceting, altering, and assembling. We will cover different types of lids and spouts along with slips and glazing for soda firing. We will work with stoneware clay. Basic throwing skills required.
